OFTEC 50 New Entrants

OFTEC 50 is a practical course designed for operatives lacking or with no experience of domestic oil installations.

It is designed to provide more intensive practical training to ensure that the delegate has a solid background and enough practical knowledge in oil to perform the everyday tasks of a competent oil operative.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The aim of each part of this course is that the candidate will reach the required standard to enable them to undertake the standard assessments (OFTEC 101, OFTEC 105E, OFTEC 600A).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no entry/pre-requisite requirements for this course. Plumbing skills will be highly advantageous but are not essential.

OFTEC 101 – 105e – 600a

A combined training and assessment package comprises of the OFTEC 101, OFTEC 105e & OFTEC 600a.

The OFTEC 102 can also be added on request, or as a single course.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Our OFTEC Oil Boiler Training & Assessment Package is an essential course for technicians requiring an OFTEC Registration.

It includes Training & Assessment on the 3 main modules: OFTEC 101, OFTEC 105e & OFTEC 600a.

We can suit any technician’s needs. If they only require 1 or 2 of the main modules, this can be provided on request.

We can also provide the OFTEC 102 Courses.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The course is for new and experienced technicians.

There are three categories candidates will fall into:

  • Category 1 – Applicants in this category are regarded as experienced Liquid Fuel technicians and are required to hold OFT accredited certificate(s) for the assessment(s) they wish to undertake; they will need to provide an original certificate as evidence
  • Category 2 – Applicants in this category are regarded as holding a nationally recognised qualification in a trade associated with Liquid Fuel work such as gas, plumbing or heating
  • Category 3 – Applicants in this category are regarded as new to the Liquid Fuel industry, and do not hold any national qualifications in a related field nor have any related work experience.  Application conditions for this category require that the Category 3 applicant must: Obtain experience with an OFTEC registered business AND Undertake a training programme (OFT50) at an OFTEC approved training centre

OFTEC 201 2 Stage Burners

The OFTEC 201 is for combustion engineers who commission, service and maintain multi-stage burners.

This course isn’t solely for commercial burners, as some domestic burners can also be two-stage.

COURSE OVERVIEW

A 3-day course costing £855 + vat.

This cost includes OFTEC Module 10, Manufacturer’s Burner Training, and all training and certification fees.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The course is for new and experienced technicians.

Domestic Burner Training

At EOGB we run a specialist Domestic Burner Training Course aimed at oil engineers of any experience.

Whether you are new to burner systems or an experienced engineer refreshing your skills, this one-day course provides in-depth theory plus practical, hands-on instruction.

Our expert trainers have direct experience of working with oil fired burner systems.

Commercial Burner Training (Italy)

Take your skills into the next level with our intensive commercial burner training course.

At EOGB we offer the specialist Annual Commercial Burner Training at Baltur’s facility in Cento, Italy.

This programme targeted at experienced heating engineers, service technicians and contractors who install, commission or maintain commercial burner systems (gas, oil and dual fuel) in commercial and industrial environments.

Whether you’re already working on large-scale burners or want to expand your capabilities beyond domestic systems, this course gives you the knowledge and practical skills required.

The trip includes training on gas, oil and dual fuel commercial burners from 50-2000 KW as well as two-stage, air/gas ratio, mechanical modulating, and pre-mix controls.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

While no formal prerequisites are listed, we strongly recommend you have prior experience in burner or boiler servicing/installation to make the most of the course.

Water Regulations

At EOGB Ltd we deliver the accredited Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) training course aimed at plumbing, heating, and related professionals who must understand and comply with UK water regulations.

This one-day course equips you with core knowledge of the key legislation (including the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and its byelaws) so you can confidently work within compliance and join schemes such as your local Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS), Competent Person Scheme (CPS) or the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Unvented Hot Water Systems

At EOGB we deliver this one-day, intensive training course designed for engineers, installers and maintenance professionals who need competence in unvented hot water systems in compliance with Approved Document G (G3) and other relevant regulations.

Unvented hot water systems are increasingly common in residential and commercial installations, thanks to their efficiency and space-saving benefits. But with that comes increased responsibility: installers and technicians must understand the safety, regulatory and servicing requirements. Ensuring you meet the requirements of Approved Document G (G3) helps protect end users from risks such as scalding, discharge failures, over-pressure events or legionella growth.

The HWSS course is recognised by Competent Person Schemes (CPS) approved to offer self-certification under Approved Document G.

  • OFTEC 102 D/W – Commissioning, service & maintenance of vaporising burner appliances (Additional Course)

Technical books are mandatory for the assessment and can be provided by us for an additional cost if required.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 3-day course involves theory and practical burner training, health and safety, combustion theory, detailed fault finding, and burner commissioning.

At EOGB we provide extra burner manufacturer training and a Manufacturer’s Product Training Certificate within the OFT201 training and assessment package to fully satisfy the requirement of BS5410 part 2.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

During the full-day training session you will cover:

  • Burner components & operation – understanding the anatomy of domestic oil burners, nozzles, pumps, combustion chambers, controls, interlocks, safety devices and fuel feed systems
  • Combustion theory & analysis – principles of oil-burner combustion, fuel/air ratio, flame picture, carbon monoxide (CO) risks, how to use a combustion analyser, check flue gas, understand efficiency parameters
  • Nozzle sizing & selection – correct selection of oil nozzles, determining spray angles, flow rates, burner pump settings, matching burner to appliance and system requirements
  • Installation, commissioning & servicing – setting up the burner safely, adjustment of controls, commissioning procedures, testing for correct operation, fault-finding common issues (e.g., poor ignition, incomplete combustion, sooting, nozzle problems)
  • Fault-finding & maintenance – hands-on troubleshooting of domestic oil-fired burner systems: identifying and remedying burner faults, flame characteristics, fuel feed/air supply issues, general servicing tasks

Delivered by expert trainers in a practical, hands-on environment, the course ensures participants gain real-world experience and a thorough understanding of modern domestic burners. Upon completion, attendees will receive a certificate.

  • Burner Types - Commercial gas burners, oil burners, dual fuel units; understanding two-stage, modulating, pre-mix burners and forced-draught systems
  • Components & Controls - Fuel trains, gas/air ratio controls, modulating actuators, safety interlocks, flame sensors, Dungs, Siemens, Kromschröder, Lamtec components and industry-standard control systems
  • Installation & Commissioning - Burner matching to boiler/plant, correct sizing of burner and fuel train, setting up gas valves, setting modulating controls, air/gas tuning and flue/ventilation requirements
  • Service, Maintenance & Fault-Finding - Identifying common issues (sooting, incomplete combustion, control failure), use of combustion analysers, adjusting set-points for efficiency, servicing all types of burners, system optimisation
  • Energy Efficiency & Compliance - Understanding how to optimise burner systems for fuel-use, emissions, compliance with standards and regulations (such as those for commercial boiler installations)
  • Practical Hands-On & Live Exercises - Real burner rigs, practical commissioning, set-up and fault scenarios, enabling engineers to apply what they learn in real-world environments

WRAS certification is essential for any technician looking to apply to their local Water Industry Approve Plumber Scheme, a plumbing CPS or MCS registration body.

The following topics are covered:

  • Backflow and contamination prevention

  • Regulations, Standards & Guidelines: In-depth review of Approved Document G (G3), British Standards (e.g., BS 5626, BS EN 12828), local authority plumbing standards, and manufacturer instructions.
  • System Components & Function: Unvented cylinders, expansion vessels, pumps, segregation kits, relief valves, horizontal/vertical discharge, controls & safety devices.
