Course information:

OFTEC 50 is a practical course designed for operatives lacking or with no experience of domestic oil installations. It is designed to provide more intensive practical training to ensure that the delegate has a solid background and enough practical knowledge in oil to perform the everyday tasks of a competent oil operative.

The aim of each part of the course is that the candidate will reach the required standard to enable them to undertake the standard assessments (OFTEC 101, OFTEC 105E, OFTEC 600A).

There are no entry/pre-requisite requirements for this course. Plumbing skills will be highly advantageous but are not essential.

The course will include:

  • Building Regulations
  • Types of oil and their identification
  • Steel and thermoplastic oil storage
  • Tank fittings
  • Fuel feed pipe work
  • Thermostatic controls
  • Gauges and overfill alarms
  • Boiler maintenance
  • Oil burners/service/fault finding/nozzle types and calculations/burner spares
  • Ventilation and Flues
  • Commissioning domestic oil boilers
  • Energy conservation

Candidates will require up-to-date OFTEC books 1, 2, 3 & 4. These can be purchased from EOGB before or during the course.
